As the Christmas holiday approaches in December 1776, Gen. George Washington faces a serious dilemma. His army, now split up, has lost every major battle. He has been in full retreat for the last two months. The situation is so dire, the congress in Philadelphia has begun plans to evacuate. His army lacks provisions and arms. Men are deserting and dying from disease. He pleads for congress to send money he'll likely not receive. His officers now openly challenge his leadership.
