Devil or Doan?
The Doans were said to possess supernatural ability.
Their strength and agility. Physical good looks and athletic prowess made many believe they had a pact with the Devil.
They were said to be shapeshifters.
Bullets passed straight through them harmlessly.
They were able to appear and disappear instantaneously.
And when strange occurrences began to happen in the community
many asked...
"...was it the Devil? Or a Doan?"
All of this added to their allure and mystique.
Their adventures and exploits, in many ways, create the foundation of the American western outlaw archetype. Moreover, attributes commonly applied to Dracula 100 years later were often part of Doan lore. Young women were warned to stay inside at night or risk falling under the seductive spell of a Doan.
